The British collective The Hempolics has released a conceptual EP consisting of three cover versions and three accompanying dub remixes. The release features interpretations of iconic tracks by Sade ("No Ordinary Love"), The Frightnrs ("Nothing More to Say"), and Shuggie Otis ("Aht Uh Mi Hed"). The band successfully balances reverence for the original material with a deep immersion into reggae groove, soul, R&B, and jazz. Of particular note are the experimental dub versions, which deconstruct the original tracks using heavy basslines, spatial guitar skanks, and modern digital electronics, thereby expanding the sonic boundaries of the source material.
