The Easy Star Records label has reissued on vinyl the self-titled debut album by the California band The Expanders, a milestone in the American roots reggae revival. Long out of print on physical formats, the record is characterized by a lean, traditional analog sound inspired by 1970s Jamaican classics, eschewing contemporary production flourishes. Unlike fellow scene acts such as Rebelution and Groundation, The Expanders' debut offers listeners an authentic roots reggae experience stripped down to its musical essentials and driven by rhythmic precision.
